Frequently Asked Questions
Hydro-Stacker Setup
1. How do I mix the media for the
HYDRO-STACKER™ vertical growing unit?
We use an equal mix of Perlite and vermiculite. We have the vermiculite
specially formulated for our units. The Perlite is the largest size we
can have made. The better the quality of the media mix, the better the
plants will grow.
2. How much room do I
need
to grow in the HYDRO-STACKER™ unit?
It takes 14 square inches to grow in the HYDRO-STACKER™ unit. Sunlight
is needed for the plants to mature and flourish. Be sure to give the
plants at least 5 hours of sunlight each day.
Plant Care and Feeding
1. Can you plant different plants in the
HYDRO-STACKER vertical garden at the same time?
Yes, it is best
to
plant the most aggressive plants in the lower
planters. Tomatoes, peppers are some aggressive plants. Lettuce,
carrots, radishes, collards, beans are less aggressive. By aggressive
we mean the thickness of the root system.
2. Is Secret Sauce organic?
Our Secret
Sauce is a
blend of natural ingredients. Secret Sauce is not
organic certified. Presently there are no standards for hydroponic
organic certification.
3. How do I mix the Secret Sauce?
The Secret
Sauce is
packaged in an easy to use plastic bag. Simply pour the entire contents
of the package marked “A” into a gallon of fresh water. Well water,
city water, will work fine. Shake the gallon till all of the mix is
liquid. Now take the package marked “B” and pour it into a separate
gallon container of water and shake it well. Make sure to keep these
two containers marked and do not pour them together, except when making
the nutrient for feeding. Take a ¾ tablespoon of “A” and
¾ tablespoon of “B” and put them into a third gallon of clear
water. Shake well and now you have your nutrient ready to use. Pour one
quart into the diffuser of the unit for each feeding. For good plant
growth you should feed three times daily. The amount of Secret Sauce
that comes with each unit should last for one growing season. Be sure
to reorder before you use it all. Do not use Miracle Grow in your unit.
It is made for soil growing and will not work well in your Vertical
Growing Unit.
4. Do I change the feeding times when the
temperature reaches about 90 degress?
This depends on what you are growing. The plants
will tell
you if they are not receiving enough nutrients. If they look droopy or
are not growing, it is probably time to give them some help and feed
them a little more. Do not over feed your plants. Too much nutrient
only harms the plant.
5. What should the pH of the water be for
the best growing in the HYDRO-STACKER™ System?
To achieve maximum plant growth, a level of 5.6 to
6.2 is
best. To get good results, a grower should purchase a pH meter. Out of
all the things to buy, a pH meter is the most important. This tool will
become an important factor to your plants growth.
HYDRO-STACKER Maintenance
1. Do I need to take my HYDRO-STACKER
system inside during the winter?
Yes. Like any growing equipment, good care should be
taken. Clean the outsides of your unit and place in a nice dry area.
You can remove the plants or let them dry some and then, pull them out.
Reuse the media each year. Make sure there is not a lot of root growth
left in the unit when you store it. Decaying roots leave a very bad
odor behind.
2. Can I add the
electric
kit to my HYDRO-STACKER manual feed system?
Yes, it is very easy to convert any manual units to
our
convenient auto feed system. The auto feed system will handle up to
fourteen stacks at one time. No other unit on the market can achieve
this.
3. Can I get updated
and/or
replacement parts for the HYDRO-STACKER™ System?
Yes, we are working very hard to make our unit a
customer
friendly and easy unit to grow in. All of the parts are available for
replacement.
4. Can you reuse the
media
in the hydroponic system?
Yes, just make sure you remove as much as the old
root
system as you can. We have people who have reused their media for five
years.
